I could put together a micro thing (5 min?) about some best uses of value lists. I realize this is a fairly basic thing, and there may be best practices, but like a lot of things, there are nuances, and more than one correct way. I'm thinking of presenting some of the ways they are used, present some real-world use issues, and really make it an open discussion, I'd just present the points to discuss.

I'm thinking of things like:

Using a pre-made value list, vs. using a dynamic value list (and if there is some some of approval for values entered, who approves/how)?

How to deal with company names changing (Acme Computer, then Acme Inc.; keep the historical name? (in inventories and contact dbs, those sorts of thing).

Lose the "Inc." in names, to keep them simple.

Consolidating duplicate (in meaning), but differently typed/entered (misspell, ACME vs. ACM Inc., OWC vs. Other W ' orld Computing vs. Mac Sales, etc.

Too dull? My feelings won't be hurt.

I'll present a *short* case study from a current project on building a contact selector with script triggers and filtered portals, looking at portability and performance across 350,000 contacts. - John, SeedCode
