June 22: Jonn Howell

Overview. Jonn Howell of DataExperience will be speaking on Transactional Data Entry and the Session Model…

The Session model is about user interface. It’s a way for the developer to provide much greater control of the user experience. It can be developed quite well in a single file system. A single point of reference allows the developer to always perceive the databases system from a consistent perspective. The demand for context awareness is radically reduced, and a development template can be used to build robust systems much faster. Merging portals and related data onto one view becomes a snap, as does task oriented design! Adding modules to an existing session-based system is easy and clear. Techniques like audit trailing and transactional processing lend them selves well to this approach, and can be modified and implemented much more easily!

We’ll review an export reporting tool built with the session model. We will demonstrate how abstraction of the user into session specific tables can allow a developer to provide an elegant and robust solution for a multi-user environment.
