Script Trigger White Paper for TechNet Members

As Rosemary mentioned at the meeting, Steve Romig of FMI has written a comprehensive Script Trigger white paper. It discusses each of the 13 types of script triggers with tips and techniques. The paper is available as a download for TechNet members.

TechNet is a $99 annual subscription that includes access to technical resources (like the white paper), the TechTalk mailing list and a developer version of FileMaker Server. Visit the TechNet web site for more information, <http://filemaker.com/technet/index.html?nav=community-technet>.

There is another new feature in FileMaker 10 we did not discuss, Enhanced File Recovery. When recovering a file, there is a new Advanced Options button. This allows you selectively enable/disable various parts of the recovery process. For example, one option will allow you to create a new version of a file without any indexes.

We recently used this feature with a client who had a damaged database and no good backup. We identified 12 corrupt fields, removed them and the file passed the recovery process with no errors. There is a white paper for TechNet members by Steven Blackwell that explains this feature.

Thanks to Rosemary Tietge!

A sincere thanks to Rosemary Tietge of FileMaker Inc. for her excellent presentation on FileMaker Pro 10 at our February meeting. Also, thanks for Darrin Quick of FileMaker Inc. for donating a copy of FileMaker Pro 10 Advanced as a door prize. The winner was Tony Borino of Tri-Tex. Congratulations!

The meeting room at the Parr Library Branch in Plano is an outstanding facility. It is well equipped with plenty of chairs, tables and a projector. One really nice feature is the ability to automatically lower the window shades for optimal viewing.

We had 25 people in attendance. Two-thirds were familiar faces with one-third new. Welcome to our first time attendees!

Our next meeting will be Friday, March 6th. We will meet at the same location (Parr Library). Taylor Sharpe of Taylor Made Services will be our speaker–Using Web Data Inside FileMaker. He will demonstrate how to pull data from the web into FileMaker using web scraping, XML import and web services. Mark your calendar and invite a fellow  FileMaker user!
